The average website visitor takes 0.05 seconds to form an opinion about a website. If the website takes more than 3 seconds to load, 53% of users will abandon it. 88% of users are less inclined to revisit a website after a poor experience.
Every website owner should take advantage of Google Analytics. It's free to set up, and lets you know how your website is preforming, and what your customers think about it. The large amounts of data intimidate people, so we are simplifying it for you. Here are the key metrics to track, and where to find them in Google Analytics.
1) Who is visiting your website. You can find this under "Audience". The age, gender, location, lifestyle, most popular pages and types of content your audience consumes online. If you are getting lots of page views, but no purchases or inquiries, it might be because your website isn't catering to the right audience. Ask yourself "Does my audience see themselves reflected in my content?"
2) Where your visitors are coming from. You can find this under "Acquisition-Overview". Knowing where your audience is coming from tells you if your ad campaigns are working, if you have good SEO, or if your audience finds your organic content interesting.
3) How long do visitors stay on your site. You can find this under "Average session duration". Your Bounce rate can be found under "Audience-Overview-Bounce rate". Bounce rate means when someone exits your site after visiting just one page. A high bounce rate indicates that your website is slow, or that your content does not interest your viewers. 26%-40% is considered an average bounce rate.
4) Where on your site are people going? You can find this under "Behavior- user flow." If your website visitors are interacting with your content, but are not buying, booking calls or responding, this indicates you don't have a clear action they should take, or that your offer is not attractive to them.
5) When you have the most, or least website visitors. The day of the week, or time of the day that you have the most website visitors is important because it tells you the best time for you to launch your ad campaign, or post on social media for best results.
6) What devices are your audience using the most. This will tell you what your website should be designed for the most. Small writing, or buttons that are blocked by pop-ups may prevent customers from taking your offer.
